Why Join? The mission and focus of ATOM has not changed for the past 40+ years. We are a collaborative organization that works with all agencies, large and small, within the state to provide quality law enforcement education. Also, each class has a higher non-member cost, so financially being a member makes sense.
It is the mission of the Association of Training Officers of Minnesota (ATOM) to promote the highest professional standards of peace officer training and education. ATOM is concerned with the advancement of the art and science of Peace Officer training. We do this by developing, exchanging and distributing training materials, concepts and technique to law enforcement agencies and individuals.
Training is focused on “train the trainer” education and falls into the following categories: Professional Development, Hostage Negotiations, Use of Force, Field Training and SWAT.
ATOM Membership is open to all licensed law enforcement officers, whether or not they are directly involved in training. We encourage those officers aspiring to become trainers in the future to join and take advantage of networking opportunities with seasoned law enforcement trainers. Membership renewal invoices are sent out in early December to all agencies within the state. Invoices will be sent to the current Chief, unless we have the Training Coordinator’s name in our files.
See the current ATOM Membership Roster HERE.
Agency Membership – Dues are based on size of Agency. 6-10 ($150), 11-15 ($175) and 16+ $250. All officers in agencies with membership will receive the discounted member rate on training throughout the year. It is only necessary for one person, preferably the person responsible for training to sign in as the contact for an agency membership.
Individual Membership is self explanatory and the cost is $25. The individual will receive a discount on training.
Educational Institution – $200. The newest membership category for an education institution with a MN POST Board certified program of professional peace officer education (PPOE) or other advanced law enforcement degree. It allows students of said institution to attend to attend ATOM sponsored courses at a reduced rate provided the student does not already possess a peace officer license. This offer excludes use of force courses, any hands-on courses that would require liability insurance for the attendee and any other course deemed inappropriate for non-licensed individuals by this association.
Students will have verify status at institution prior to approval of registration. Contact 952/922-2324 for more details.
ATOM is run by a Board of Directors elected by the association’s membership, it is a non-profit 501C(3) association and has been in existence since 1973. The Board consists of individuals who are officers through chiefs and every rank in between. The Board meets monthly and the calendar can be accessed through our website, at https://mnpolicetraining.org.
